This Aptitude topic mainly uses the logic of sets and Venn diagrams. A typical question gives the number of students studying two subjects and asks how many study both, using the rule that the total equals group A plus group B minus those in both. Other items combine percentages, such as finding a class size when known shares pass, fail or pass both subjects, and some test inclusive counting, such as how many pages are read from page 110 to page 114. Careful reading is vital, because the words 'both', 'either' and 'neither' change the answer completely.

Use the formula n(A or B) = n(A) + n(B) minus n(A and B). If 150 students are in a school, 100 study Physics and 70 study English, and everyone studies at least one, then 100 + 70 minus 150 = 20 students study both.
Most mistakes come from inclusive counting and wording. Reading pages 110 to 114 means five pages, not four, because both end pages are counted. Words such as 'neither' or 'only' also change the calculation, so underline them before you start working.
