About Voice MCQs

This category covers voice change across many structures. You will convert simple sentences like They greet me cheerfully every morning, present perfect forms such as The boy has rung the bell, sentences with two objects like Sajid gave the beggar an old shirt, and modals as in You should open the wine. Questions also include interrogatives such as Who is creating this mess and Has someone made the arrangements, passive to active conversions, and verbs of perception like I saw him leaving the house.

Voice change is a standard item in English sections of recruitment and entry tests across South Asia. Errors usually come from using the wrong form of be or the wrong pronoun case. Practising many sentence types helps you apply the rules automatically and avoid traps in the options. Remember that some sentences, especially those with intransitive verbs, cannot be changed, and examiners sometimes test this point directly as well.

Key facts to remember

  • In passive voice, the object of the active sentence becomes the subject.
  • Passive voice uses a form of the verb be followed by the past participle.
  • Present perfect passive uses has been or have been plus the past participle.
  • Modal passive uses the modal plus be plus the past participle, as in should be opened.
  • Intransitive verbs have no object, so they cannot be changed into passive voice.

How to prepare for Voice MCQs

  1. Make a chart of passive forms for all twelve tenses and the main modals, and revise it until you can recall each instantly.
  2. Check pronoun case after conversion, for example me becomes I and him becomes he when they move to the subject position.
  3. For questions beginning with who, use the pattern By whom is this mess being created.
  4. Keep the original tense unchanged during conversion, since options often differ only by a wrong tense of be.
