This English topic follows a clear set of rules. Questions cover statements in the past reporting tense, where present simple becomes past simple, questions where said to becomes asked and the word order turns into a statement, and commands or requests that use verbs like ordered or requested with an infinitive. You will also see negative requests such as Please don't go away becoming She requested not to go away, past perfect tenses that stay unchanged, and universal truths like the sun rising in the East that keep their tense. Spotting word order errors such as where is everyone is also tested.

India
Bangladesh
When the reporting verb is in the past tense, the reported tense usually moves one step back: present simple becomes past simple, present continuous becomes past continuous, and past simple becomes past perfect. Past perfect stays the same. Universal truths and habitual facts keep their original tense.
Replace said to with asked, remove the question mark, and use statement word order. For yes or no questions, add if or whether, as in She asked her mother whether the sun rose in the East. For wh-questions, keep the question word, as in She asked where everyone was.
