What is thrashing?

Correct answer C. A process spends more time paging pages in and out than executing, because it lacks enough frames

Explanation

When a process cannot keep its working set in memory, nearly every access faults, and pages it needs are evicted almost at once. CPU utilisation collapses because processes are always waiting for paging I/O. If the OS then raises the degree of multiprogramming to use the idle CPU, things get worse. The remedy is to give processes enough frames or to suspend some.
