Questions on the making of the Constitution cover the Constituent Assembly, its first meeting, the Drafting Committee, the role of the Constitutional Adviser and the reasons behind the dates of adoption and commencement. Other questions ask which features were borrowed from other constitutions, such as the Concurrent List from Australia, and how the Constitution is organised into Parts, Articles and Schedules. Knowing who held which role in the Assembly, and on which dates key decisions were taken, answers a large share of these questions.
The rest of the topic tests the content of the Constitution itself: the words of the Preamble and how the 42nd Amendment changed it, individual Fundamental Rights such as Articles 14, 17, 21A and 32, the rights that cannot be suspended in an emergency, Fundamental Duties, the Seventh Schedule lists and the amending procedure under Article 368. Recent amendments on reservation and women's representation also feature.

Dr B. R. Ambedkar, who chaired the Drafting Committee of the Constituent Assembly, is widely described as the chief architect of the Constitution. Dr Rajendra Prasad was President of the Constituent Assembly, and B. N. Rau served as its Constitutional Adviser and prepared the initial draft.
The Constituent Assembly adopted the Constitution of India on 26 November 1949. Since 2015 the date has been observed as Constitution Day, also called Samvidhan Divas. The Constitution came fully into force two months later, on 26 January 1950.
Questions on the Constitution appear in the UPSC Civil Services prelims, SSC CGL and CHSL, state PSC exams, RRB NTPC and the social studies sections of CTET. Fundamental Rights, the Preamble and major amendments are among the most frequently tested areas.
